Microwave Ablation

(MWA)

Microwave ablation (MWA) is a cancer treatment in which microwave energy is sent through a thin microwave antenna. It is a newer method of treating liver, kidney and lung cancer that can target and kill cancerous cells and relieve pain.
With imaging guidance either CT or ultrasound, the tumor is localized, and the microwave antenna is placed directly into the tumor. The microwave energy creates heat, which destroys the diseased cells and tissue.
